When are your advanced training sessions held?Advanced Therapy Dog Training is held every Tuesday night at 7pm.

What types of events do you attend?The Legacy Therapy Dogs are available to visit schools, libraries, literacy programs, summer and after school programs, scout troop meetings, mental health chapters, and facilities, nursing homes, work place events, community events, and SO much more. We also offer presentations for various men's and women's groups. If your event isn't listed above, that doesn't mean we can't attend. You name it, and we will try to make it happen!

What are the requirements to make my dog a Legacy Therapy Dog?Successful completion of Legacy Dog Training's 6 week basic training course (or successful completion of the basic skills evaluation) Attendance at a minimum of 8 advanced training classes Successful completion of the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Test. [This test is given in house by our certified evaluators, at no extra charge] Completion of a minimum of 8 supervised mentored volunteer visits with our team leaders. Where is your training center located?Our training center is located at the ARC of the Quad Cities Opportunity Center; 5101 52nd Avenue Moline Illinois. It is conveniently located less than one mile off of John Deere Road, and less than 2 miles from Walmart (Moline) and Blains Farm and Fleet (Moline)

Are the Legacy Therapy Dogs insured when visiting my facility?Yes! We have a comprehensive insurance policy that covers all of the Legacy Therapy Dog Teams when they are volunteering at your event. We can provide a copy of this policy upon request.

What types of programs do you offer?We have 3 different programs at Legacy Therapy Dogs. Legacy Reading Dogs The Legacy Therapy Dogs can help students improve literacy skills and provide a non-stressful, non-judgmental environment. After all; Dogs Don’t judge, they just listen. Reading with a dog increases self-confidence and encourages a love of reading in specific and learning in general. The Legacy Therapy dogs are great in all learning environments! They help ease stress right before a big exam which can improve tests scores, they help give support to struggling readers and they also help children focus better. The Legacy Therapy Dogs provide a focus for conversation and encourage communication. They can help fearful children become more self assured, help children overcome speech and emotional disorders and they can help relieve stress and anxiety ~ especially with autistic children. We also work with teachers, social workers and counselors to help students deal with anger, pain and sadness Legacy Therapy Dogs: Mental Health Awareness According to the World Health Organization, more than 1 billion people worldwide are living with mental health disorders. The Legacy Therapy Dogs are committed to helping with this crisis. The Legacy Therapy Dogs visit with many mental health chapters throughout the quad cities. This form of animal assisted therapy uses trained animals for a wide range of people to help achieve therapeutic outcomes. Interacting with therapy dogs has been shown to produce significant decreases in depression and anxiety and can also help improve communication and social behaviors. The Legacy therapy dogs are available to visit your facility, mental health chapter, and your staff and students to offer some much needed therapy dog love. Legacy Therapy Dogs: Crisis Response - The Legacy Therapy Dogs can help in times of crisis by providing comfort, stress relief and emotional support. The safety and familiarity of therapy dogs has been found to help build rapport with and provide comfort to a person affected by a crisis. Therapy dogs are often seen as emotional First Aid. The Legacy Therapy dogs can help people affected by the loss of a friend, colleague or loved one. They can offer assistance after mass casualty events, as well as provide comfort after natural or man-made disasters.The Legacy Therapy dogs can also offer support for first responders as well. The Legacy Therapy Dogs crisis response teams are on call, and need no prior notice to help assist in times of crisis.

Is there a cost to have the Legacy Therapy Dogs visit my event/facility?Legacy Therapy Dogs is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. This means that there is NEVER a cost for any of our visits.

Is there a cost to join Legacy Therapy Dogs?To join Legacy Therapy Dogs, there is yearly membership fee of $150. Each membership can have up to three different handlers, but additional handlers must pay an extra $30. Cash and Check are accepted as well as Paypal and Venmo.

What is the cost?The cost for the six week basic training course is $150, with $50 due upfront to reserve your spot.

What type of training do you provide?Legacy Dog Training will teach you and your dog basic obedience​ commands​, as well as tolerance training, so your dog will learn to hold their commands and ignore distractions, and temperament training so your dog will be more confident, more obedient and ready for any situation. This type of training helps build a lasting bond between you and your dog. The training you'll receive is a bit different from other basic obedience classes. We believe in using gentle correction and positive reinforcement and will teach your pup to respond to you out of love and respect, never fear.

I'm not sure my dog will be a good fit for this course. What do you recommend?Legacy Dog Training offers free temperament evaluations! During these evaluations, head trainer Angie Hall will evaluate your dog to see if it is a good fit for our basic training program. All evaluations must be scheduled to ensure availability.
